Updating Account Information

Can I correct errors in my name, date of birth or Social Security number?

If you find an error in your name, date of birth or Social Security number once your ShareBuilder Account has been opened, we would be happy to help you correct it. To do so, you may be required to send in certain forms or a letter of instruction.

Tip: Any errors or typos regarding your personal information may prevent your account from being approved for trading right away. It's really important to verify (and double check) all your information before completing the ShareBuilder Account application.

Can I change my username?

Currently, your username for the ShareBuilder website cannot be changed once your account has been opened.

How do I change my password?

Changing your password frequently is a great way to help keep your account safe. Just follow these steps to get started:

  1. Go to Accounts, then Overview, then Profile & Settings (sign in required)
  2. In the Security Information section of the page, select edit next to the Password option
  3. There, you’ll see some guidelines about our password requirements
  4. Enter your current password, enter and re-enter your new password, then click Submit

How do I update my email address?

The main way we get a hold of our faithful investors is through email, so keeping your email address up-to-date is appreciated.

So, to update your email address, please follow these instructions:

  1. Sign in at www.sharebuilder.com
  2. Go to Accounts > Overview > Profile & Settings > Personal Info (Sign In required)
  3. Select Edit in the 'Email' section of `Your Information'
  4. Enter your updated email address in the fields provided, then click Save

Updating your email address will update the information for all of your ShareBuilder Accounts.

Tip: Incorrect contact information may result in your ShareBuilder Account being restricted from trading (which isn't fun). If your email address changes in the future, be sure to update this information promptly.

How do I update my address?

If you need to change your home address please follow these instructions to get started:

  1. Sign in at www.sharebuilder.com
  2. Go to Accounts > Overview > Profile & Settings > Personal Info (Sign In required)
  3. Select Edit in the 'Your Information' section
  4. Enter or update your home address in the fields provided, then click Save

Tip: You can also edit your mailing address from this page, or you can add a mailing address by checking the Enter a separate mailing address box.

Updating your home address will update the address for all your ShareBuilder Accounts.

Tip (part two): Incorrect contact information may result in your ShareBuilder Account being restricted from trading. If your home address changes in the future, be sure to update this information promptly.

I don't get mail at home—can I provide a mailing address?

If you have a mailing address that's different than your home address, we've got you covered. Just add a mailing address during the account setup by checking the Enter a separate mailing address box on the 'Contact Information' page. Then, you will be shown additional fields to store this information.

To add or edit a mailing address after your account is open, please follow these instructions:

  1. Sign in at www.sharebuilder.com
  2. Go to Accounts > Overview > Profile & Settings > Personal Info (Sign In required)
  3. Select Edit in the 'Your Information' section
  4. Check the Enter a separate mailing address box to expose these fields (if entering a new mailing address)
  5. Enter or update your mailing address in the fields provided, then click Save

Updating your mailing address will update the address for all of your ShareBuilder Accounts.

Tip: Incorrect contact information may result in your ShareBuilder Account being restricted from trading. If your mailing address changes in the future, be sure to update this information promptly.

How do I update my phone number?

It takes just a couple of steps to update your phone number. Just follow these instructions:

  1. Click on Accounts > Overview > Profile & Settings > Personal Info (login required)
  2. Click Edit in the `Your Information' section
  3. Enter or update your daytime phone number in the fields provided, then click Save

As a bonus, updating your phone number in one account will apply the change to all of your ShareBuilder accounts.

Tip: Incorrect contact information may delay your ShareBuilder account from trading. If your phone number changes in the future, please update this information promptly.

Can I use my work address or a P.O. Box?

You can set a work address or a P.O. Box as a mailing address, but we are still required by securities regulatory authorities and the IRS to collect your home address in order to start and maintain a brokerage account.

How do I change my email subscription preferences?

It may cost you in the long run, but you can opt out of receiving our money-saving promotions and product updates by changing your email subscription preferences:

  1. Just click on Accounts > Overview > Profile & Settings > Personal Info (sign in required)
  2. Click Edit in the 'Email Preferences' section
  3. Select the Yes or No radio button, depending on your subscription preferences, and then click Save

Tip: Even if you unsubscribe from receiving products updates and promotional offers, important communications concerning your account (confirmation, tax, and other regulatory notices) will still be sent as required.
