How to use Stock Finder

Stock Finder allows you to find potential investments based on the criteria you choose - such as price, market cap or industry.

To use the Stock Finder tool to return stocks that meet your criteria, do the following:
  1. Review the criteria groups and decide which of the criteria to use as a part of your query. For example, you may want to do a search on price. Learn more about the different criteria.
  2. Set the criteria by making selections from the select lists and ensure that the criteria group checkbox is checked. For example, if searching for stocks priced between $1 and $5 dollars, select $1 in the Price Min select list and $5 in the Price Max select list.
  3. Submit the query: Click the Search button to submit the query.
  4. Review the results: Review the securities returned that meet your criteria. The number of results is listed. Use the previous and next links to move through multiple pages of results.
  5. Edit Criteria and New Search: To refine your results, click on the Edit Criteria link. To start fresh, click on the New Search link.

What are the Stock Finder criteria?

Stock Finder allows the user to select from many different criteria groups. Multiple criteria can be used at the same time. These groups include:

  • Price - This criteria returns stocks with the current price per share between a specific range. The price-per-share minimum and maximum can be set from $0 to $100+.
  • Industry/Exchange - This criteria returns stocks currently trading on the specified exchanges and/or classified in one or more of the following industry groups:
    • Exchanges include: All Exchanges, NYSE, NASDAQ or AMEX
    • Industry Groups include: Oil & Gas, Basic Materials, Industrials, Consumer Goods, Health Care, Consumer Services, Telecommunications, Utilities, Financials and Technology
    • Industry Sector allows you to select a specific segment of the selected industry group. For example: If "Technology" is selected as the Industry Group, "Computer Hardware" may be selected as the industry sector
  • Volume - This criteria returns stocks within current average trading volume per share within the specified range.
  • Market Cap - Market capitalization is a measure of the value of all outstanding shares of a stock. It is calculated by multiplying the number of outstanding shares by the current share price. This criteria returns stocks with a market capitalization within the specified range.
  • Price Performance - This criteria returns stocks that are currently outperforming or underperforming the selected market index by the selected amount. Market index selections include: S&P 500, DJIA, NASDAQ Composite and Russell 2000
