Can I place a trade by phone?

Yes! As an added convenience, ShareBuilder now accepts phone orders for ShareBuilder-listed stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds. To place a trade with a Customer Service Associate, call 1-866-590-7629 any time between 8:00am and 9:00pm ET, Monday through Friday. A commission of $19.95 per trade will be applied for orders placed by phone.

All real-time trade types and ShareBuilder-listed mutual funds are accepted. Options trading and Automatic Investment Plan changes are not accepted at this time. Other restrictions may apply. Learn more about trading by phone.

What does it cost to place a trade over the phone?

A commission of $19.95 per trade will be applied for orders placed over the phone.

Are there any limitations in placing a trade over the phone?

Currently, you can place real-time trades for stocks and ETFs and ShareBuilder-listed mutual fund trades over the phone as long as the following conditions are met:

  • If you are not approved for margin borrowing, you must have sufficient funds available in your account to cover the estimated transaction cost, including commissions.
  • If you are approved for margin borrowing you must have sufficient buying power to cover the estimated transaction cost, including commissions.
  • Mutual fund trades placed over the phone require that you read and consent to the terms, risks, and conditions specified in the prospectus for each applicable mutual fund prior to placing a trade. The prospectuses for ShareBuilder-listed funds are only available online.

At this time, options trading and Automatic Investment Plan changes are not available by phone. Express Funding is not available for trades placed by phone, as our agents are not authorized to request funds from your bank account. All trades placed by phone are subject to the same terms and conditions as trades placed online. Refer to our pricing and rates for additional terms and conditions.

What information will I need to provide when placing a trade by phone?

You will need to provide our Customer Service Associate the same information used to place a trade on our website. The following information will be needed for each order placed over the phone:

  • Whether you are buying or selling a security
  • The name or symbol of the security
  • For real-time trades, the number of shares to be bought or sold
  • The type of order; ShareBuilder accepts market, limit and stop-loss orders for real-time trades. Learn more about order types.
  • A price will be needed for real-time limit and stop-loss orders

Does ShareBuilder provide any investment advice for trades placed by phone?

ShareBuilder does not make recommendations and does not offer any investment advice. Customer Service Associates can provide the same security information available to you on the 'Research' tab of our website during the order-taking process if requested. All trades placed by phone are subject to the same terms and conditions as trades placed online.
