How do I update my address?

To update your home address, please follow these instructions:

  1. Navigate to Accounts > Overview > Account Profile (login required).
  2. Click Edit in the Contact Information section.
  3. Enter or update your home address in the fields provided, then click Save.

Note: You can also edit your mailing address from this page, or you can add a mailing address by checking the Enter a separate mailing address box.

This will only update the home address for the account you are currently signed in to. If you have multiple accounts, you will need to follow these instructions for each account.

Note: Incorrect contact information may result in your ShareBuilder account being restricted from trading. If your home address changes in the future, be sure to update this information promptly.

I don’t get mail at home; can I provide a mailing address?

You can enter an alternate mailing address into your ShareBuilder account profile at any time. To add a mailing address during account setup, check the Enter a separate mailing address box on the Contact Information page; you will be shown additional fields to store this information.

To add or edit a mailing address after your account is open, please follow these instructions:
  1. Navigate to Accounts > Overview > Account Profile (login required).
  2. Click Edit in the Contact Information section.
  3. Check the Enter a separate mailing address box to expose these fields (if entering a new mailing address).
  4. Enter or update your mailing address in the fields provided, then click Save.

This will only update the mailing address for the account you are currently signed in to. If you have multiple accounts, you will need to follow these instructions for each account.

Note: Incorrect contact information may result in your ShareBuilder account being restricted from trading. If your mailing address changes in the future, be sure to update this information promptly.

How do I update my email address?

  3. Enter your updated email address in the fields provided, then click Save.

How do I change my password?

To update your password, please follow these instructions:

  1. Navigate to Accounts > Overview > Account Profile (log in required).
  2. Click Change Password in the 'Account Information' section.
  3. Follow the instructions shown to update your password.

When creating a password, please keep the following requirements in mind:

  • It must be between 6 and 25 characters long
  • It must contain a mix of letters and numbers only
  • It must be lower case – you will not be able to use a mix of lower and upper-case letters
  • It cannot match your name, last name, or username
  • It cannot be a password you have used previously

How do I change the checking or savings account on file with ShareBuilder?

There are two ways you can change the checking or savings account on file with ShareBuilder. The first is while in a process that uses your checking or savings account on file for funding or for payment of a charge. You will see a Change checking/savings account link. Clicking this link will expose fields to allow you to enter new account information.

You can also change your checking or savings account information outside of a transaction by following the instructions below:
  1. Navigate to Accounts > Transfer Money > Checking & Savings (log in required)
  2. Click the change checking/savings account link to expose fields that will allow you to enter in a new account (fields exposed by default if no account is on file).
  3. Click the Next button.
  4. Verify your account information and authorize the change by entering the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.
  5. Click the Save button.

You can change the checking or savings account on file with ShareBuilder at any time, but please be aware that all future requests will be made from the account that is on file at the time the request is sent to your checking or savings account. Open electronic withdrawal requests will not be affected as the checking/savings account number on file at the time of that request will be used.

Note: Repeated problems with transfers from your checking or savings account may result in the closure of your ShareBuilder account.

How do I view my account’s transaction history?

You can find a detailed history of all transactional activity that has occurred in your account by navigating to Accounts > Transaction History (login required). In addition, you can download this information into Microsoft Money, Quicken, or Excel (CSV).

By default, you will be shown all activity for the last 7 days, but you have the ability to filter by the following settings:

Time Period

You can select from a pre-defined Time Period list or you can establish your own set of Custom Dates.

Note: When selecting Custom Dates, you can only view one year at a time, however the ‘from’ date can be as early as December 1, 1999.

Date Range

When you select a pre-defined date, the 'from' and 'to' dates will be automatically populated. You can either use these dates or edit them to create your own custom date range.

Transactions

You can use the Transaction list to filter on the types of transactions that have occurred in your account. For example, with this list you can look at all of your trading activity or narrow it down to only show Automatic Investment Plan trades.

  • All Transactions – All account transactions for the time period will be displayed
  • All Trades – Include all trades regardless of the type of security or how the trade was made
    • Automatic Investments – Only display purchases made through your Automatic Investment Plan
    • Real-time Buys – Only display buy transactions of equities (stocks & ETFs) made with a real-time trade
    • Real-time Sells – Only display sell transactions of equities (stocks & ETFs) made with a real-time trade
    • Mutual Fund Trades – Only display transactions that involved a mutual fund
    • Options Trades – Includes all buys and sells of options
  • Funds Transfer – Display all activity where cash is transferred in or out of your account
    • Deposits – Include transactions that show cash being transferred into your ShareBuilder account, such as deposits from your checking account or payment of the pricing program's monthly subscription
    • Withdrawals – Include transactions that show cash being transferred out of your ShareBuilder account, such as requests to transfer money to your savings account or to mail you a check
  • Dividends – Includes any money market dividends, cash dividends from stock, and reinvested dividends

Note: All transactions appear in date order.

If you wish to view the activity that occurred in another of your ShareBuilder accounts, simply use the 'Switch Accounts' box (linked accounts only).

How do I view my trade confirmations?

You can view a list of your recent trade confirmations by navigating to Accounts > Records & Statements > Trade Confirmations (login required).

Confirmations contain the details for transactions made in your ShareBuilder account. When viewing confirmations, the default display period is for the Current Month. You can view past activity by selecting Last Month or Year to Date from the Time Period menu.

Once you have found the trade confirmation you want to review, clicking View will open the confirmation in a new browser window that is formatted for printing. To print your trade confirmation, go to your browser's File menu and select Print.

Note: To keep trading and account costs to a minimum, ShareBuilder does not mail out hard copies of confirmations. To view your statements, please follow the directions below. Please print all confirmations and monthly statements for your records.

How do I view my account statements?

You can view a list of your account statements by navigating to Accounts > Records & Statements > Statements (login required).

Statements summarize the transactions and activity that occurred in your ShareBuilder account during a month. In January of each year, ShareBuilder consolidates the previous year’s monthly statements into a single year-end statement. These statements contain the same information as your regular monthly statements, formatted to make the information easy to find and use.

Note: Depending on the number of transactions you had completed, the year-end statements may take longer to load.

To open a statement, locate the month or year you want to review in the list of available files. Click the name of the statement to open it in a new browser window that is formatted for printing. To print your trade confirmation, go to your browser's File menu and select Print.

Note: To keep trading and account costs to a minimum, ShareBuilder does not mail out hard copies of statements. Please print all confirmations and monthly statements for your records. ShareBuilder provides three years of statements online.

How do I change my email subscription preferences?

To change your email subscription preferences, please follow these instructions:

  1. Navigate to Accounts > Overview > Account Profile (login required).
  2. Click Edit in the Email Preferences section.
  3. Select the Yes or No radio button, depending on your subscription preferences, and then click Save.

Note: Even if you unsubscribe from receiving products updates and promotional offers, important communications concerning your account (confirmation, tax, and other regulatory notices) will still be sent as required.

How do I close my ShareBuilder Account?

Please be aware that you are not required to close your ShareBuilder account if you simply wish to stop investing for a period of time.

To prevent any future purchases from being made, you can switch off your Automatic Investment Plan.

If you are enrolled in the Standard or Advantage Pricing Program and no longer want to pay the monthly subscription, you can downgrade to the Basic Pricing Program (which has no monthly subscription).

If you just want to close your account, go to Accounts > Overview > Account Profile. At the bottom of the page, click Close this account.
